GE joins Africa Partner Pool

Leading technology and infrastructure company General Electric has announced its decision to join the African Partner Pool (APP) in Ghana. The APP is Ghana’s first online cross-sector business directory that connects local and international companies.

The decision is part of efforts to support local content and help build local suppliers in-country. It will further develop GE’s relationship with local suppliers and buyers, and help drive growth across its businesses.

GE’s Regional Growth Leader for Western Africa Leslie Nelson said: “GE works in Ghana to support economic growth through infrastructure development, especially in the power, healthcare and transport sectors. In partnering with respective stakeholders to develop the critical infrastructure in Ghana, we recognise the need to work with local partners at all times. Localisation has therefore always remained at the heart of our strategy in Ghana and the rest of the continent,” said Mr. Nelson.

Sam Brandful of Invest in Africa Ghana, the organisation that manages the APP, expressed delight at GE’s decision to join the APP. “The APP helps companies to more efficiently connect with quality local suppliers here in Ghana. We believe GE Ghana will take advantage of this network to further strengthen its suppler development credentials,” said Brandful.

GE began operations in Ghana with a couple of employees in 2010, and has in less than 4 years grown its employee base to over 50. Ghana is one of the countries under GE's Developing Health Globally initiative, an initiative designed to improve healthcare delivery in rural African communities and other regions of the world. In the Power sector, GE and its partners have signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to develop and implement the Ghana 1000 Project. When complete, this innovative integrated gas-to-power project will deliver more than 1,000MW of electricity to Ghana’s national power grid.
