The Rent Control Act 1963, Act 220 under Section 255 states that no landlord has the right to take rent advance for more than three months and six months for residential and commercial areas. But this law has largely gone unenforced by successive government.

Addressing party supporters at the launch of its manifesto for 2016 elections Saturday at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Science in Accra, the presidential nominee of the CPP, Ivor Greenstreet slammed the practice of charging two years advance rent.
