PAC hits at BOG Governor for snubbing committee

“The governor is fond of excuses, this particular governor is fond of excuses, I have to say it out,” - Atta Akyea, MP for Abuakwa South

The Public Accounts Committee in Parliament has taken a swipe at the governor of the Bank of Ghana for consistently eluding the committee.

MP for Abuakwa South, Lawyer Atta Akyea said the governor is fond of making excuses for not appearing before the committee.

“The governor is fond of excuses, this particular governor is fond of excuses, I have to say it out,” he said. His comments came after Dr. Henry Kofi Wampah failed to appear before the committee for the second day running,  with the excuse that he has some important official duties to performance.

The Governor was required to answer questions that had to do with some discrepancies relating to the accounts of the central bank as captured in the Auditor General's 2012- 2013 Audit Report. The committee rejected the excuse, insisting that the committee subsequently hold on with inquiries concerning the Central Bank to be addressed by the governor in person.
