NEDCO to arrest power thieves

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) for NEDCO Alhassan Abaabah, said the new policy to name and shame power thieves will prevent a lot of people from continuing with the act.

According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for NEDCO Alhassan Abaabah, this is their only resort to prevent illegal use of power.

This has led them to launch an exercise dubbed “operation save NEDCo now” at its headquarters in Techiman in the Brong Ahafo region.

“We have launched this to save the company. It is directed at illegal connections and non-payment of light bills. Going forward we are not just going to limit the exercise to talking, we will also include naming and shaming and so if we get culprits, we will publish the person’s name, house address, place of work, place of fellowship so that at least if the Police is not going to work, the court must work and if both don’t work at least the naming and shaming should be able to save us.”

He added that this new strategy is being implemented to discourage the practice of stealing power.

He was also hopeful this will reduce the significant revenue losses NEDCO suffers.

He gave an example that in Techiman alone, 40 percent of power distributed by NEDCO is not accounted for when they reconcile revenue.

Alhassan Abaabah added that the company will not spare anybody found to have engaged in power theft.
