NCA responds to calls to ban internet calls

The National Communications Authority is to take a decision on  internet calls after pleas from MTN and other telecommunication companies for a ban on  Over-The-Top calls through social media apps.

Ghanaians are gradually resorting to the use of social media apps like Whatsapp, Telegram, Viber, WeChat amongst others for voice calls instead of the normal telecommunication networks.

In a statement released by the NCA, the authority mentioned the numerous benefits of social media platforms to the average Ghanaian, but bemoaned the revenue loss caused by the use of these platforms for voice calls.

The authority also bemoaned the inability of these calls to be taxed, and regulated. And how to the currency market;
