Inflation rate for January hits 19%
Meaning that the change in the general price level was 19.0% over the one year period, from January 2015 to January 2016.
The Ghana Statistical Service has pegged the annual (year-on-year) inflation rate for January 2016 at 19.0%.
The year-on-year inflation rate for December 2015 was 17.7%. The monthly change rate for January 2016 was 4.6%.
Meaning that the general price level went up by 4.6% between December 2015 and January
2016.The monthly change rate recorded for December 2015 was 1.1%.
AngloGold Ashanti asks for troops protection for workers after attack
Mining giant, AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) has asked for troops protection in Obuasi following an attack by illegal miners on workers of the company that resulted in the death of the Communications Director of the company,Mr John Owusu.
A statement from AngloGold Ashanti said Quote "The onus for ensuring safety and security of individuals and property in any country, and therefore restoring safety and security to the site, lies with the authorities," Unquote
