Micro-blogging social media site, Twitter, is ten years old today. The platform kicked off a worldwide online celebration on its blog tagged "Thank you! Love, Twitter" inviting people to celebrate its first decade via the hashtag #LoveTwitter.

Since co-founder and second-time CEO Jack Dorsey sent out the first tweet on March 21, 2006, Twitter has changed the way we use social media.

Designed by Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone, and Noah Glass, and initially named "Twttr", the social media platform has become one of the most used social media mediums in the world.

Within four years, by 2010, Twitter was already boasting of 50 million tweets being sent on the platform each day. By 2013, when the company filed for its Initial Public Offering (IPO) that number had already grown to 500 million.

Twitter changed the social media game with its short style 14-character limit messages as well as its real-time updating setup which has made it a big hit during major events.

You can join Twitter to celebrate its ten-year anniversary by tweeting with the hashtag #LoveTwitter.
