Kennedy Uzoka appointed as new Group Managing Director

Uzoka is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from University of Benin and recently completed an Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School.

Kennedy Uzoka as been appointed as the new GMD of the UBA Group

According to various media reports, the Board of United Bank for Africa has appointed Kennedy Uzoka as its new Group Managing Director.

Uzoka will be taking over from Phillips Oduoza, who retires on July 31, 2016, after two terms leading the UBA Group.

Uzoka's appointment will take effect from August 1st, 2016 and is subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) reports say.

Uzoka is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from University of Benin and recently completed an Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School. Uzoka has over two and half decades of experience in commercial banking, strategy and business transformation. He also holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Lagos.

Prior to his latest appointment, Uzoka served as Deputy Managing Director, UBA group and was also the CEO of UBA Africa.

In addition, Victor Osadolor was also appointed as the Deputy Managing Director, UBA Group.

Mr. Osadolor is a former Chief Strategy Officer at Ecobank Transnational Incorporation. He holds a  degree in Accounting and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Accountants of Nigeria as well as an Advanced Management Programme Certificate from the Harvard Business School.

“Kennedy brings an extremely strong skill set and is ideally positioned to lead UBA in its next phase of growth. His most recent experience of managing the Group’s increasingly important African business, is particularly relevant, as we all work to build one of the leading financial services franchises in Africa. I have no doubt that both he and Victor with their expertise and depth of business experience will ensure that the Bank is best positioned to deliver on its strategic ambition.

The Board feels that the strong foundations created during Mr Oduoza’s term provide an excellent basis for our further success,” said Tony Elumelu, Chairman, UBA Group, on both appointments.
