Mahama to inaugurate Komenda sugar factory

The factory, which was established decades ago by the late President Kwame Nkrumah was later closed down due to some operational challenges.

President John Mahama

Government, two years ago, secured a thirty five million dollars Indian Exim Bank facility to make it operational.

President Mahama during his "Accounting To The People Tour" in the Central Region said the Komenda Sugar Factory when in full operation will produce annually half of the country's sugar import thereby cutting down to half, the 300 million dollars used every year to import sugar into the country.

“…Now that the factory is up, we are going to give the road from Komenda junction to Komenda on contract. It will not only come to the factory, it will go all the way to Komenda town and so that is the step of industrializing the country. Step by step we are changing lives in this country and we are transforming Ghana,” the President said.
