A 52-year-old man was gunned down in the Volta regional town of Alavanyo Kpeme on Monday in the Volta region.

Korku Aniewu, who is a security man at the Alavanyo Senior High School, is said to have been shot in the head by unknown assailants at about 4pm, in a nearby bush where he was cutting bamboo.

The motive for the shooting has yet to be established even though eye witnesses believe the incident has something to do with the protracted ethnic rivalry between the Alavanyo and the Nkonya tribe.

The victim was rushed to the Hospital but died on arrival.

Police in the area have begun investigations into the incident, which comes on the back of a similar case where two old women in the area on June 3, 2015 were killed.

As a result of the protracted dispute between Alavanyo and Nkonya, the two towns have been under a dusk to dawn curfew.
