Tema East Constituency Boils

Some members of the opposition NPP have plan coup d'etat to oust its member of parliament in the Tema East constituency.

There seems to be a deliberate ploy by some leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Greater Accra Region and the Tema East constituency to replace the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) of area, Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, as the party’s parliamentary candidate for the 2016 elections.

Daily Guide has picked up signals of some covert activities against the sitting MP by people including his own constituency and regional executives to get him replaced at the next parliamentary primaries which would be held sometime this year.

Currently, one Benjamin Nii Armaah Ashittey, polling stations secretary at the Sea-light Electoral Area in Tema who works with Intermodal Shipping Agency, is being taken round to some key and influential people in the party in the constituency and the region by some executives of the Tema East constituency and the regional executives as the possible candidate for the next elections.

The name of the one of the constituency organisers has popped up as the person leading the campaign against the incumbent MP with the tacit endorsement of some regional executives of the NPP.

Titus himself said he was aware of such a move but was unperturbed by the stealth attempts to remove him.

Even though he expressed worry about the development, he said his main focus is to deliver the mandate given to him by his constituent whose interest he represents in parliament.

What seemed to baffle him was the fact that his detractors were going round with a vicious campaign against his candidature in a bid to paint him black and take over the position.

The incumbent, however, seemed to enjoying a lot of support from most of the constituency executives who have pledged support for his candidature.

Some constituency and regional executives indeed confirmed to the paper, they were aware of moves to remove the incumbent MP as the party’s parliamentary candidate for the 2016 elections but fell short of mentioning names of those behind the scheme.
