Assembly members crucial to success of decentralization

Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, has observed that without the commitment of assembly members the country’s decentralization process would become a mirage.

According to him, Assembly members’ robust debate, scrutiny, support, and commitment to better the lot of the people made them worthy soldiers of the decentralization system.

Mr Odamtten, who was hosting the assembly members who just finished serving their tenure, said assembly members were at the frontline of the defense of the ordinary Ghanaian.

He thanked the former TMA members for their support and foresight, which had yielded a lot of projects, which he said, had raised the standard of living in the Metropolis.

“I will always remember with nostalgia your acceptance of my eight-point agenda, which is aimed at rejuvenating Tema.

“You also wholeheartedly supported the resolution to use 40 per cent of our Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to do infrastructure projects,” he said.

He commended them for supporting the Assembly’s e-revenue collection platform, which has boosted the collection of revenue in the Metropolis

Mr Odamtten announced that the Assembly Electoral Area Development Fund, which offered 10,000 Ghana cedis for development in each of the 32 electoral areas, would be increased to 50,000.Ghana cedis.
