Ibrahim Mahama Drags NPP Chairman To Court

The presiding judge, Mr Justice Ringo Azumah, upheld the application by counsel for the defendant and adjourned the case to December 11, 2014 for hearing.

Mr Ibrahim Mahama, a younger brother of President John Dramani Mahama, has sued the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Bernard Antwi-Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi for defamation.

The case is to be heard at the Kumasi High Court on December 11, 2014. According to reports, Ibrahim Mahama is seeking close to GH¢2 million in damages.

Earlier this year, Mr. Antwi-Bosiako apparently called Ibrahim Mahama "a thief and dishonest man" who connives with his brother, President John Dramani Mahama to increase fuels and hoard proceeds. The accused is to have alleged that these proceeds were stored in a bank in South Africa.

According to the plaintiff, the said defamatory statements were made to cause damage to his reputation.

The plaintiff, who is being represented by Mr Charles William Zwennes, is also seeking a declaration that the defamatory statements made by Mr Antwi-Bosiako were false and malicious.

Mr. Antwi Bosiako and his lawyer, Mr. Egbert Faibille were not present in court the last time the case was heard [Friday], but Mr. Faibille was represented by Mr. Kwabena Attah.

He told the court that counsel for defendant was not able to make it to court and asked for an adjournment.
