IMF loan won't solve dumsor - Charles Wereko-Brobbey

Dr. Charles Wereko Brobbey says the IMF loan will not solve the power crisis.

A former Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey says a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will not ease the energy crisis.

According to him, government's refusal to settle debts owed power producers must be blamed for the deteriorating power supply in the country.

Tarzan said the Mahama-led government is not being frank to Ghanaians but rather enjoys seeing the citizenry in pain.

The IMF loan which seeks to solve the problems of the country, he noted will only deal with issues at the surface and not the real issues troubling Ghanaians

“Pay ECG, for them to also pay other power producers before the solution is solved because if you continue relying on this IMF loan, then I’m sorry you are deceiving yourselves” Tarzan stressed

To ensure a regular power supply, Dr. Wereko-Brobby charged government to as a matter of urgency find money to pay off its huge debts.

“Already Nigeria has officially put us on notice because we have refused to honour our financial obligations. If Nigeria cuts its gas, Asogli will be shut down and a huge effect of shutdowns will ravage through Ghana’s thermal power enclave in Takoradi” he warned.

He further stated that “apologizing to Ghanaians is not the solution for dumsor. Let’s look for money to settle our problems because the IMF won’t work” he added.
