Voting without verification defeats biometric registration - Asuogyaman MP

Some members of the Minority in Parliament have raised concerns about the instrument which requires two -thirds of votes from Parliament.

 

The EC introduced the 'no verification, no vote,' policy to prevent electoral fraud but it’s now seeking to abolish the 'no verification no vote' rule and encourage manual verification.

“If you bring or procure a machine, and that machine is unable to verify some of the citizens because of the mechanical inadequacies of that machine, you cannot des-enfranchise the person who has the right to proceed to vote, so in that respect if there are any people who fall within that category, then the only way to overcome that is to have a limited number of verification”, he said

Kofi Osei Ameyaw has urged the Electoral Commission not go by the ‘no verification no vote’, adding that the prejudices of electoral officers in the discharge of their duties will affect the turnout of votes cast.

“The issue where offences and punishments can be meted out to electoral officers is not in the instrument. Their actions will not identify the true picture of the leaders or president the people want, if people are not disciplined people will not have confidence in the system,” he added.
