The absence of ministers and committee chairs from parliament has led to an abrupt adjournment of its sitting on Wednesday.

MPs abandon parliament; sitting adjourned
The house sat for 30 minutes just a day after Parliament reconvened from its three-month recess.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon Edward Doe Ajaho took the decision after the majority leader, Alban Bagbin had pushed for an adjournment.
The absenteeism is as a result of preparations by the National Democratic Congress towards its November 7 parliamentary and presidential primaries.
Most MPs seeking re-election have intensified their campaigns. According to Majority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak, MPs would have to learn how to strike a balance since they cannot abandon parliament to canvass for votes in their respective constituencies.

“The primaries is not over. We’re still negotiating with some chairpersons to negotiate sittings. It is difficult to tell MPs to abandon campaign. We have to strike a balance,” he said on Joy FM.
