Ethnic conflict 11 arrested over Bunkpurugu clashes

Police in the Northern Region have arrested 11 people in connection with the recent clashes in Bunkprugu.

Eleven people have been arrested in connection with clashes that broke out in Bunkpu­rugu/Yunyo last week that killed two persons.

They were arrested in separate police swoops.

Jabong Yoobe, 24; Tanko Nambir, 29 and Dajeeb Lom, 26 who were the first persons to be apprehended by security agents, are believed to have murdered Daniel Waap a 58-year-old staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the heat of the clashes.

Kofi Tampuri, a teacher; Jeremiah Kabir; Joshua Nyankpen; Kwabena Bissa; Yewnukwa Tampuri and Tabka Tambakutuk have all been picked up by police for their roles in the violent clashes.

District Police Commander, ASP Felix Kumado told CitiFM on Thursday that four of the suspects were seized in connection with the two murders and the remaining seven in connection with the burning of houses.

“We arrested three who were trying to escape on a motor bike from Bunkprugu to Nankpanduri, one was arrested in Tamale and the other seven were arrested in the Bunkprugu Township’’.

The deceaseds were identified as a male teacher and a businessman.
