Five people died on the spot when a taxi cab traveling from Asante Mampong to Kumasi was run over by a Kia truck.

The dead including the driver of the taxi cab and four passengers, according to an eye witness were returning from the town where they sat for their distance education examinations.
The dead includes the driver of the taxi and four passengers in the taxi. The Kia Truck, used in distributing Sonapak drinking water has the registration number GW 1951-13. The taxicab's registration number is AS 4788-14.
The deceased persons were lodging at the St. Monica’s Senior High School at Mampong in the Ashanti Region.
An eyewitness narrated the incident that the driver of the KIA truck, which was moving from Jamasi towards Asante Mampong, lost control of the vehicle after his brakes failed and run over the taxi cab.
The driver and mate of the KIA truck absconded after the accident.
The bodies of the dead have since been deposited at the Asante Mampong hospital morgue.
