AMA makes GH₵80,000 from fines for sanitation offences

Dr. Anim Boateng in an interview with Ghana News Agency disclosed that a total of 616 sanitation cases from January to May, were prosecuted while others were cautioned and discharged.

 

The Metropolitan Public Health Department of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), has realised GH₵80,000 from fines imposed on sanitation offenders prosecuted in the 10 sub-metros, Director of the Department, Dr Simpson Anim Boateng has said.

He indicated that there was the need to intensify the sanitation laws to serve as deterrent to others.  According to him, many people residing in the metropolis do not comply with the bye-laws on environmental health, which are the basis of poor waste management in Accra.

Dr. Anim Boateng has cautioned residence to stop the practice of open defecation, dumping of refuse into drains, littering and any other unhealthy practices.
