Military officer on the run not linked to ISIS

Major Derek Oduro (Rtd) told Pulse.com.gh Private Bawa Abdul Rahman, has been “under investigation for close to a year now for misconduct”

 

A Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior committee, Major Derek Oduro (Rtd) has refuted claims that the Ghana Armed forces is on a manhunt for one of their officers who is suspected to have links to terrorist group ISIS.

“That is not the fact, it is not true”. Major Oduro told Pulse.com.gh.

According to him the officer in question, Private Bawa Abdul Rahman, has been “under investigation for close to a year now for misconduct” in the service.

He explained that Private Abdul Rahman only bolted when “they wanted to pick him for investigation”.

He added that though “anytime he is arrested he will be tried”

Meanwhile the Ghana Armed Forces also says it is investigating the source of the reports that Private Bawa is linked to ISIS.

Director of Public Relations Colonel E. Aggrey-Quarshie told Pulse.com.gh  “we have also heard the report too and so we are conducting our investigations with the appropriate security agencies to see the truth or otherwise of the matter.

"Our intelligence are looking into the matter.… Once we come up with anything, then we will talk about it,”.
