Road diversions for March 6 celebrations announced

The Ghana Police Service in a statement announced that the roads which will be blocked include the 28th February Road from CEPS Headquarters to Castle junction, Osu Cemetery Traffic Light on the Lokko Street and the Castle Road from AU Circle to Osu Cemetery Traffic Light.

The statement which was signed by the Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Cephas Arthur pointed out that “only vehicles with assigned stickers and those carrying spectators to the Black Star Square will be allowed to pass through Police check points.”

The Police has since directed road users to take note of the following road diversions:

1. Traffic from the 28th February Road stretching from Labone, Osu and La heading towards the Central Business District [CBD] will be diverted on to the Lokko Street at the Castle Traffic Light to link up with the Oxford Street.

2. On the High Street, traffic will be diverted onto the Liberia Road through National Theater and further link up with the Ring Road towards Osu.

3. Motorists plying the Osu Cemetery traffic Intersection, the National Theater, Ministries, the Accra Sports Stadium towards Accra shall use the TUC link towards Cathedral Intersection and then link up with the Kwame Nkrumah Avenue.

4. Motorists are further advised to note these arrangements and plan for alternative routes before embarking on their journey. Further to this, no vehicle will be allowed to park or drive through the above mentioned roads. However, security vehicles and other vehicles carrying designated dignitaries to and from the Black Star Square will be allowed to pass through Police check points after meticulous screening.

5. Motorists who wish to attend the event but have no vehicle pass or sticker may however be allowed to park around the Accra Sports Stadium.

Meanwhile, traffic Police personnel will be deployed at vantage points to assist motorists and the general public.

The Police apologised for any inconveniences that the arrangements would cause.
