Aiding Africa's dev't will curb upsurge in migration - Mahama

Africans he argued, migrate to seek opportunity and "if we create growth poles in Africa that provide that opportunity in Africa they would have no reason to migrate to another continent to look for opportunity."

President John Mahama on Wednesday participated in a summit on migration in the Maltese city of Valletta.

Attended by many other African and EU leaders, the two-day summit is a platform for the leaders to exchange views and take decisions on the challenges and opportunities of migration and mobility between the two continents.

Speaking in Paris ahead of the Valletta Summit, President Mahama noted that "migration is not new to Africa. Within our countries our people migrate. I have Ghanaians in Gabon, I have Guineans in Ghana, I have Malians in Ghana, I have Nigerians in Ghana, I have Ghanaians in Nigeria, I have Ghanaians in Cote d’Ivoire."
