The court took decision after the prosecution told the court the court it had dropped the charges against the eight on Wednesday, May 17, 2017.

Explaining their decision the prosecutor, ACP Okyere Darko, said after investigations, they did not have enough evidence to support the charges levelled against the accused persons.

Background

It will be recalled that the eight members of Delta Force, a vigilante group associated with the governing New Patriotic Party, besieged the Kumasi Circuit Court and freed its members who were facing charges for attacking the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, George Agyei.

They had said that Mr Agyei did not deserve the position because he played no role in the struggle to bring the NPP into power.

Out of the 21 men arraigned, only 13 turned up. But shortly after the Presiding judge remanded the men in police custody to reappear on April 20, their supporters stormed the court and freed them.

The freed suspects later turned themselves in and eight others who were accused of freeing the suspects were also arrested. The accused persons are expected to return to court on the 17th of May 2017.
