Otumfuo Appeals To Gov't For Tax Concession For Local Businesses

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has appeal to the government to grant local industries five years tax concessions, as a means of growing their businesses.

This could serve as an incentive in giving local businesses a firm grip to succeed, He said during the commissioning of the Prefos street lighting Assembly Plant at adarkwa Jachie in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Assembly of the Ashanti region.

Otumfuo said “I want development for my people, Asanteman… I am appealing to government, if it’s a five-year tax concession, government should grant it so that the business will flourish and the income stays right here in the country." He added, With the current energy challenges facing the country, Prefos has come at a better time.

Prefos Limited is one of Ghana’s foremost indigenous electrical engineering companies, with expertise in the provision of street lighting, accessories, installation and boasts of an electrical training center. The Assembling Plant is, however, expected to create about 2,500 jobs for the youth.

In attendance, former President John Agyekum Kufuor commended the CEO of the Prefos Plant, Alex Fosu for conceiving such a good project.

Former President John Kufour complained “Our governments take pain to prioritize but everywhere these days it is acknowledged that among the many things we prioritize for development is energy, especially electricity. Here in Ghana, you would all agree that when we talk of electricity, every bit of electricity, the component part, is imported. How can we talk of development if we are so heavily dependent on importing every little in supply of energy.”
