Police kill three robbers

According to the Deputy Regional Police Commander ACP Duku, one of the identified suspects is believed to be the ring-leader of a gang that killed a taxi driver in Obuasi recently.

This was revealed at a press briefing held by the command today (Tuesday). Addressing the press, Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander ACP Ampofo Duku said they received intelligence which led them to lay ambush near the scene of the crime.

“On the night of July 25, upon intelligence that this same group was going to operate in a house behind the SSNIT flats at Asuoyeboah, police went ahead of them and laid an ambush there. Lo and behold, a taxi drove up with five occupants and the police signalled it to stop, but they ignored and started fleeing while shooting,” he narrated.

He continued that some of the suspects fled with gunshot wounds. He, therefore, asked health facilities to report any patient who comes them with gunshot wounds.

“Police pursued them up to a point, and the taxi slowed down. Three men got down, entered the bush and started engaging the police in a shootout. The police returned fire. Unfortunately, those in the taxi managed to get away, but we suspect they might have sustained gunshot wounds, and so we are entreating the general public and medical facilities that if anybody shows up with gunshot wounds, please report to the police for the person’s arrest. Fortunately, the police called for reinforcement, and they combed the bush and found these three men who were killed including Bernard Ali in the shootout,” he added.

According to ACP Duku, one of the identified suspects is believed to be the ring-leader of a gang that killed a taxi driver in Obuasi recently.

Items found on the suspects include two empty cartridges, a hood and a cash amount of GHc 24, two locally manufactured pistols, and two mobile phones.
