Court remands 5 suspects for lynching 67-year old widow

They victims were remanded into police custody upon a request by the police to enable them continue their investigations without interference from the suspects.

The five were part of about fifty eight people arrested by the police for screening during their investigation.

The 67-year-old widow, Yenboka Kenna, was lynched at the Pelungu market on Monday, May 29, 2017, after she was accused of being a witch.

The case has been adjourned to 28th June 2017.

Meanwhile, the Regional police in Upper East Regional has said that they will ensure all those involved in the lynching are punished according to the law.

In a related development, Tindong-Raan, the Chief of Tindongo, the community where the deceased hails from, has said that even though the Pelungu chief has denied knowledge of the lynching, he has asked his people not to avenge the woman’s death.
