President John Mahama has accepted the resignation of Transport Minister, Dzifa Attivor.

This was contained in a statement signed by Presidential staffer, Stan Dogbe.

The two-paragraph statement read; “President John Mahama has accepted the resignation of Mrs. Dzifa Aku Attivor as Minister for Transport.

Her resignation follows concerns raised over a contract to spray and brand 116 new buses procured by government to improve transportation in the country’s major cities.”

Mrs Attivor resigned on Wednesday following the revelation that her Ministry had spent GHC 3.6 million on re-branding 116 buses.

Following public backlash over the matter, the Chief of Staff, Julius Denrah ordered the Attorney General to thoroughly investigate the contract which was awarded to Smarttys Management and Productions, a company owned by Selassie Ibrahim, wife of Ibrahim Adam, a former Minister of Agriculture under the Rawlings administration.

The AG’s report was on Wednesday submitted to the Chief of Staff but some seven Ghanaians have filed a law suit at the High Court, Human Rights Division.

They are among other things praying the court to issue “an order directing the Honourable Minister of Transport to make full disclosure on the contract for the branding of the 116 Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses.”
