President Mahama, others remember June 3 fire and flood disaster victims

The service is being held at the Ernest Bruce Methodist Church at Adabraka a few meters away from the disaster site. This will be followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the ground Zero.

 

A memorial  service is underway at the Rev Ernest Bruce Memorial Methodist Church at Adabraka to remember the many victims of the June 03 fire and flood disaster.

The service is being organised by the Accra metropolitan assembly , Adabraka Local Council of Churches in collaboration with the National Petroleum Authority.

Present John Mahama, the Accra Mayor Alfred Oko Vanderpuye, the Minister for Interior Prosper Bani and Petroleum minister  Emmanuel Armah Kofi Boah are scheduled to speak.

Early on the President tweeted "We'll continue to correct dev'ts that let to the disaster"

Other dignitaries who have shown up for the service are the NDC parliamentary candidate for Klottey Korle Zanetor Rawlings, MP for  Klottey Korle Nii Armah Ashietey, Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority, NPA and other government officials.

Families of the victims who died have also filled the auditorium clad in red and black.

Over 150 people lost their lives in a tragic flood and fire accident which many say could have been prevented if City authorities had done their job by ensuring the city is kept clean.

The memorial service will be followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the Goil fuel station where many people sought shelter the day the incident happened.

Currently the place is been prepared and cleared for the ceremony. This is the first time the place is being cleared since the disaster.
