A man who had been on remand for five months for possessing a roll of cannabis popularly known as 'weed' was on Friday discharged under the Justice For all Programme.

Kwame Esun, 28, was arrested in a town close to Sekondi on November 17, 2016 and has since been on remand.

He was convicted of his own plea but was on Friday discharged by officials of the Justice For All Programme after having served five months already without trial, Accra-based Joy FM reports.

Esun was made to sign a bond of good behaviour for a period of 12 months or will be jailed for two years.

He was arrested in the company of six others all of whom have been freed.

Four other remand prisoners have also been discharged.

The Justice for all programme is a special in-prison court sitting on remand prisoners, prisoners whose trials are unreasonably delayed.

The maiden sitting of the programme was successfully held at the James Fort Prison on 27th September 2007.

But with some few years into the programme, the Chief Justice, Georgina Theodora Wood believes the programme needs a complete overhaul to ensure its effectiveness.
