NRSC sets up investigation committee

According to the NRSC, the move is to find out the exact cause of the accident and put in place measures to prevent similar carnage on the roads.

Mr Henry Boama Asomani, Regional Planning Officer of the National Road Safety said the Committee should complete its investigations in less than three weeks.

"In our set up we have it that when an accident happens and the accident claims more than four lives we institute an investigation team to look at the cause of the accident and when the cause of the accident comes up we do things to mitigate that cause.

"So with the Kintampo accident, the investigation team has been constituted; they should be starting their work very soon. And normally, the investigation team takes less than three weeks to finish their work. And when their findings come out we use the findings to mitigate another one from happening, he told Accra-based Metro Tv.

About 70 people perished in an accident involving a Metro Mass bus and a cargo truck on Wednesday.

The accident occurred when the Tamale-bound Metro Mass bus and Accra-bound truck loaded with tomatoes from Burkina Faso collided head-on the Kintampo-Tamale highway.

At least 23 passengers survived the accident and are receiving treatment at the Techiman Government Hospital, the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Sunyani Government Hospital and the Holy Family Hospital in Sunyani.
