Mahama 'agitated' over COCOBOD breakaway from ICU, GAWU

The workers have accused the two unions of failing to protect their interests and have since declared the formation of an in-house union.

But speaking at the Jubilee park in Wa in the Upper West Region to mark Ghana's May day celebration, the president said even though the constitution gives workers the right to break away from their mother unions, they should remember to do so with caution.

"This right well alienable in the constitution must be exercised with caution, less we weaken worker solidarity and end up with smaller ineffective workplace unions," the president added.

He has therefore called on the Trades Union Congress and other tripartite parties to bring an end to the labour dispute.

Meanwhile, the ICU and GAWU have accused the leadership of COCOBOD of fuelling the breakaway of its workers for selfish gains.

GAWU and ICU are therefore, challenging the decision at the Human Rights Court.
