Mahama meets reps of JUSSAG; strike likely to be called off

JUSSAG is expected to make a major pronouncement on the strike issue following their meeting with the President, which was held on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 behind closed doors.

President John Dramani Mahama has met with representatives of the Judicial Service staff Association of Ghana and other stakeholders in a bid to find a lasting solution to their salary concerns.

JUSSAG has been on strike since Friday 20th May 2016 over what they say is government's failure to implement the new agreed consolidation of their salaries and allowances.

JUSSAG embarked on a similar strike but was called off after assurances by Haruna Iddrisu the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations to ensure the implementation of the new salaries.

But two months afterwards the judicial service workers are accusing government of showing a lackadaisical attitude towards their demands and cannot hold on further for their demands.

The Employment Ministry as well as the Labour Commission have described the strike as illegal with the latter heading to court to challenge the legality of the strike.

Even though the court is yet to give its verdict, it is believed that JUSSAG may call off its strike following its meeting with the President on Tuesday.
