A Physician Specialist at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Osei Owusu has bemoaned bitterly how government is treating medical doctors in recent times.

He described as “unfortunate” government slow effort to meet their (doctors) conditions of service – which has necessitated their two-week strike.

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) last week voted to extend their strike action despite calls from various sectors to call it off.

They have however agreed not to resign en masse as threatened by their leadership over an absence of a documented conditions of service.

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show "Ghana Montie", Dr. Osei Owusu who is also a member of the association revealed that – “Doctors over the years are not entitled to any risk allowance”.

He noted that – if any doctor get infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus [HIV] – “That will be a sole burden on the doctor because there is no risk allowance for us”.

Dr. Osei Owusu noted that, some members of the medical association are – “now writing foreign exams to leave the country. This shouldn’t happen”.
