He told Accra-based Citi FM: “when you get to the GM [General Manager] level and these things are happening, there are rules and regulations. I don’t think that they have gone through that regulation properly. They have not given him the opportunity to defend himself.”

“Secondly, his constitutional rights have been breached. The procedures in SSNIT have not been followed properly. His credibility as a young man has been [compromised]. I believe that there should be redress,” the lawyer added.”

Dr. Caleb Afaglo was relieved of his post for securing a job at the Trust with fake degrees, SSNIT said in a statement announcing his sacking.

The move comes after the Economic and Organized Crimes Office (EOCO) initial investigations into his academic qualifications established that he got his job by presenting fake certificates.

“Evidence made available to the Trust indicates that the University degrees presented by Dr.Afaglo to secure his employment at the Trust are fake,” it said.

“Trust will collaborate with the Economic and Organized Crimes Office (EOCO) to ensure that those suspected of breaches of the Law in respect of the OBS contract are dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land,” the statement from SSNIT added.

EOCO has conducted raids in Afaglo’s house, seized his passport and frozen his bank account.

In addition, his former employers -  SIMNET, GLICO and Dominion University College – have been interrogated by EOCO.

His fake degrees came to light after the controversy over SSNIT’s award of a $34 million contract for the development and implementation of an Operational Business Suite (OBS), which later ballooned to $72 million.
