Premium applicants will receive licences in 1 day - Bawumia

Speaking at the launch, Dr Bawumia said the two smart cards would facilitate the activities at the DVLA and improve its services.

He said that with the new process, “it means that practically it should take anybody a maximum of two to three weeks to obtain a licence in Ghana. And once you’ve passed your test, if you opt for the premium service, you should get your licence in one day”.

The vice president added that DVLA has been tasked to work to ensure that drivers and vehicle owners go through the processes of acquiring the cards with ease to facilitate road transportation and safety.

The new licence contains a chip loaded with the owner’s bio-data and the driver’s personal information.

The new licence is aimed at doing away with the incidence of fake licences from the system and cutting out middlemen, popularly known as ‘goro boys’, from the licensing regime.
