The hospital with an expanded bed capacity from 192 to 420 was built by the Mahama administration with a $250 million credit facility from the US Exim bank and HSBC Bank.

It is expected to provide expanded access and quality healthcare to over six million people across its catchment area and the entire country.

At the ceremony, the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, said the government would soon begin the process of securing funding to start the construction of the second phase of the project.

He expressed gratitude to Presidents Jerry John Rawlings, Professor John Evans Atta Mills and John Dramani Mahama for their contributions towards providing Accra with a modern referral regional hospital.

The nation is indeed grateful for their efforts”, he said.

The Minister also expressed appreciation to the US Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Robert P. Jackson and the French Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Francois Pujolas, who were present at the ceremony, for their commitment towards the construction of the facility.
