We accept blame for Tamale Teaching Hospital riot - Health Ministry

Two groups affiliated with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) clashed Monday over the rightful person to head the Hospital.

Kwaku Agyemang Manu is the Health Minister

A press conference was held by a youth group to protest the announcement of Dr David Akobilla as the new CEO of the Hospital.

According to the group, Dr Mohammed Ibrahim would have been the best person to take over from the current CEO, Dr Prosper Akambon.

But an NPP vigilante group, Kandahar boys who favoured another candidate, stormed the venue of the press conference and condemned the action of the youth group.

According to the Kandahar boys, the action of the youth group does not augur well for the image of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s nominee for the CEO position.

The presence of the Kandahar boys angered the youth group and this resulted in a confrontation between the two.

The PRO of the Health Ministry, Robert Cudjoe has since taken blame for the confusion, saying it should have served the current CEO, Dr Akambon a letter announcing his transfer and subsequent handing over to the newly appointed CEO.

Dr Akambon had earlier indicated that he will not handover to his successor until he receives a letter to that effect.

But the Health Ministry PRO has told Accra-based Joy FM that “We will send his letter to him as soon as possible and whatever the Ministry wants him to do will be clearly stated in the letter.”

He further indicated that David Akobilla is the rightful appointee of the president.
