“Sam George is empty-headed” – Dr. Yankson

The presidential staffer while commenting on the strike declared by doctors called on government not to only freeze their salaries but also eject them from their bungalows.

The Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Justice Yankson has described presidential staffer, Sam George as an “empty barrel” who is just seeking to please his pay masters.

Members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) have embarked on a strike to demand improvement and codification of their conditions of service.

Talks between government and the striking doctors have stalled on several occasions. While the doctors say government has not been negotiating with them in good faith, government has said it cannot negotiate under duress.

The strike was extended by two weeks last Friday after a crunch general assembly meeting by the GMA.

A statement from the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations reminded the doctors and all other striking public sectors workers that under the provisions of the Labour Act 2003 (Act 651), a worker on strike, “may forfeit his/her remuneration in respect of the period during which he/she is engaged in the illegal strike.”

He suggested that a doctor on strike cannot stay in a highly subsidized building at the expense of tax payers.

Reacting to the submission on Asempa FM’s on Tuesday, Dr. Yankson stated that he will not descend to the level of an empty-headed and politically tainted minded person.
