Woman blames hospital negligence for death of 10-year-old son

The boy passed away after suffering some complications following a 75 milligram of Naklofen drug administered to him at the hospital.

The mother of the deceased, Mabel Senahey told Accra-based Joy FM that the doctor had asked for a 50mg of the drug to be given to her son, but the pharmacist changed the drug.

She informed the doctor about what had happened, but the doctor asked her to go ahead and give the drug to her son, she said.

The boy, however, began complaining of heart burns and stomach pains after taking the medicine. He was also sweaty and taken to the hospital but the doctors and nurses failed to attend to him, the mother alleged.

She told Accra-based Joy FM that her son made a last request before he passed away on Sunday around 4.00 am.

“Mummy I said take your phone and look at the time for me. I want to go but I don’t know where I am going,” she recalled her son saying.

The woman is still demanding answers from the hospital, blaming authorities there for neglect.

The hospital is yet to comment on the incident but reports say that management is in a meeting over the matter as at the time of filing this story.
