Franklin Cudjoe And Fiifi Kwetey's Feud

You may not have noticed but the government has been engaged in a social media war with the founder of Ghana’s leading think tank.

Franklin Cudjoe, founder and president of IMANI Ghana versus Fiifi Kwetey, Minister of Agriculture and Dela Coffie, an NDC member.

The war of words began offline when Fiifi Kwetey, Minister for Agriculture challenged the leading members of the OccupyGhana movement, on radio, to declare which political party they support. Mr. Kwetey was of the impression that the OccupyGhana movement is a front for the NPP opposition party to frustrate the progress and achievements of the NDC-run government.

Franklin Cudjoe responded saying that the Minister was blowing hot air and trying to avoid the important issues that OccupyGhana were talking about. This is not the first time that the OccupyGhana movement has been accused of supporting or being used by the NPP. Last year, many major events by the advocacy group were surrounded by doubts and speculation about their true motives. It seems the squabbles have been dragged into the new year. Tongues got sharp when Mr. Cudjoe asked what, at all, Fiifi Kwetey could have achieved without politics.

Fiifi, hit low at Franklin Cudjoe, claiming that the IMANI boss had struggled to pass his A-Level exams. He even went as far as saying that whilst Franklin is so keen to talk about economics, he failed his economic paper three times. Claims that Franklin Cudjoe quickly denied. Egos began to inflate with either side determined that they were better, more experienced and more respected than the other. Basically, Franklin Cudjoe and Fiifi Kwetey both agreed that they are not co-equals. Franklin Cudjoe even began sharing articles written about him and the biographical introduction that precedes him everywhere he goes. That’s when Dela Coffie, a member of the NDC jumped in to support the Minister in his feud with IMANI and OccupyGhana. He claims Franklin’s biographical is inaccurate and overexaggerated.

The matter seemed to be settling with the Minister and other NDC supporters dropping the discussion. Asiedu Nketia, aka General Mosquito, the Chairman of the NDC had declared a cease fire of sorts and everything between IMANI-OccupyGhana and the NDC had resumed to business as usual. That was until yesterday when Franklin Cudjoe took to the think tank’s website to share his academic credentials “out of respect for all of you who believe in Transparency and Accountability”. It turns out from the evidence provided by Mr. Cudjoe he was really admitted to Buckingham University in the UK, he was really an Earhart Foundation Graduate Fellow and he has really debated Benjamin Mkapa former President of Tanzania when he was still incumbent.

Obviously, Dela Coffie will not let the matter go. As of an hour ago he posted on his facebook a response to Franklin Cudjoe’s very open defence. He told Franklin that he “would have wish you never responded because this your come back has aggravated your situation” before continuing on his 925-word take down of Franklin Cudjoe. No doubt there will be yet another response. Those who have either men on facebook should sit back and grab the popcorn because it doesn’t look like this would finish anytime soon. The saga continues…
