The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged workers to continue supporting government as it works to turn the economy around.

In a statement signed by the General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, congratulated all Ghanaian workers as the world celebrates May Day adding that, “on this special day we call on workers to rally behind the government as the nation strive for a better Ghana.”

It said workers “deserve commendation and praise for your devotion to duty, tolerance, loyalty and commitment to promoting conducive labour environment that has culminated in the current peaceful atmosphere for nation-building.”

It added that, “the recognition of your relentless efforts and sacrifices towards increased productivity and growth of the economy, even in the midst of socio-economic challenges currently confronting the nation."

The statement, however, noted that the NDC government is encouraged by organized labour’s commitment to rules governing the labour terrain which they said has “motivated the party to consolidate its relations and recognition for the Trades Union and affiliate labour institutions.”

"Government will continue to promote policies that have the potential to enhance and uphold the rights of workers and it will also not relent on its resolve “to see the qualitative improvement of all workers, irrespective of religion, colour, tribe and political orientation,” it stated.
