He said the formation of such groups posed a security threat and the earlier something was done about it, the better it would be for the country.

In an interview on Accra FM, he said many of the political parties found the groups useful to champion their cause, hence their nefarious acts at every election period.

He, therefore, called on the security agencies to be firm and robust in their quest and to arrest and prosecute political vigilantes and their leaders.

He said "The IGP should deal with this matter. If he doesn’t deal with the matter, then the president who has been elected by us to make sure Ghana is safe must deal with the matter.

"They are gaining momentum and they are gaining strength. The government must take a strong stand against them and other such groups, otherwise some of them who are not happy for various reasons can plunge the country into chaos, so let the police deal with the matter. This is a criminal offence," Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah added.
