Main body of aircraft found in sea

The fuselage of the airplane was located by a Singaporean Navy vessel on Wednesday, January 14.

The main body of the crashed Air Asia flight QZ8501 has been located in the Java Sea, officials say.

Singapore’s Defence Minister, Ng Eng Hen announced the discovery via Facebook saying:

“Chief of Navy RADM Lai Chung Han just informed me that one of SAF’s ships, the MV Swift Rescue, has located the fuselage of the AirAsia plane in the Java Sea. Images taken by the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) show part of the wing and words on the fuselage. We have informed BASARNAS, the Indonesian search authority who can now begin recovery operations.”

The head of Indonesia's search and rescue agency, Bambang Soelistyo, also said that the fuselage had been spotted by searchers on Tuesday, January 13.
