Speaking on Accra FM he said, “they are not yet out of the woods because when they come out or while they are in prison, they can still be brought to court and charged with threat of death, which is a more serious offence.”

Meanwhile, a former President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Sam Okudjeto, has indicated that the jail term for the trio should have been more. He argued that the four-month jail term was too short to serve as a deterrent to others.

“If I were there, I would have given them more than because I am so worried about what I call irresponsibility that has almost crept into political arena whereby people use the television and radio as a platform for vulgar abuse. That is not what the media is meant for and I think that a lot of characters that are appearing on television should not be allowed. The station itself should have been punished heavier for them to put down rules, the rules which say that when you come here no abuse, no insult.”

“I would have preferred to have given them at least six months and then ban them for a year or two to be of good behaviour” he added.

The Montie FM presenter Salifu Maase, aka Mugabe, and two panellists on his program Ako Gunn and Alistair Nelson have been sentenced to four months in jail by the Supreme Court after they were found guilty of contempt

Each of the three contemnors has also been fined a sum of GHS10,000. The owners of the station have been fined GHS30,000 each. They are to pay the fine by the end of Thursday, July 28 or face a month’s jail term.
