Accra braces for more rain after flood deaths

The weather department has informed Ghanaians to get prepared from now to probably second week of June.

Ghana Meteorological Service has forecasted more heavy rainfall in coming couple of days. A thunderstorm is said to be coming Ghana from Benin in the next two hours.

Already some parts of Accra city are underwater and hundreds of people are died due to Wednesday’s heavy rainfall.

Head of Research at the Meteorological Service, Charles York indicated that, “the weather warning was given at 17:38 GMT on the 3rd of June, 2015.”

“You give warnings and people do not even care whatever you are going to say. People do not even take warnings seriously,” he lamented. Read more

York pointed the Ghanaian culture of dumping waste into drainages and building in waterways as some of the causes of the perennial flooding in Ghana.
