The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced interruptions in power supply from now till July, 2016, when it expects to complete replacement of “over-aged equipment at its major substations across the country”.

The works include the re-configuration of some of these substations, installation of additional transformers, replacement of switch-gears, construction or expansion of Control Rooms, as well as the provision of capacitor banks and standby generators at some major substations.

A statement issued Monday by GRIDCo mentioned Achimota, Kumasi, Takoradi, CapeCoast, Dunkwa, Tamale, Sunyani, Techiman, Aflao, Winneba, as some of the affected substations.

The statement added: “As a result of these on-going works, which are planned for completion by July 2016, there may be short interruptions in power supply to consumers, in order to create a safe working environment for the workers, outside the regular load shedding programme”.
