An employee of the Judicial Service is in the custody of the Osu District Police for allegedly duping some persons on the pretext of helping them to acquire vehicles being auctioned by the service.

The suspect, Abdul Ramani Salami, 47, is said to have advertised through some friends that the Judicial Service had six cars for auctioning.

Salami, who told his friends he had been put in charge of the auction, allegedly collected various cums of money from unspecified number of persons but failed to deliver the cars.

Victim reports to police

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Osu District Police Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Appeatu Adabo Frikyi, said Salami was arrested after one of the victims filed a complaint with the police.

Mr Frikyi said the victim, a businessman (name withheld), told the police that in August 2015, a friend told him that Salami had promised to assist him to buy some cars marked for auctioning by the Judicial Service.

The complainant said he developed interest in the cars and contacted Salami through his friend.

On an agreed date, the complainant met Salami who took him to the Judicial Service Training School at Cantonments, in Accra and showed him six cars with registration numbers GR 4417-09, GR1313-V, GR1305-V, GR1323-V, GR1301-V and GE 736-W.

Mr Frikyi said the complainant told the police that he was convinced about the deal after seeing the cars.

Salami then collected an amount of GH¢33,000 for the six cars but went into hiding after taking the money.

The crime officer said when the suspect was arrested he confirmed taking money from the complainant.

He is said to have since returned GH¢3,950 out of the amount collected from the complainant.
