Traumatised workers petition Chief of Staff over unpaid salaries
The workers, numbering about 1,500 complained that they have been working for the past three years without any pay.

Spokesperson for the group, Abdul Hamid Munir told Accra-based Citi FM that several attempts to get authorities to respond to their concerns have proved futile.
“We sent reminders to our head office, Ministry of Finance at the first quarter of the year, we didn’t hear anything from them, we sent another one to them in the second quarter, and we did not hear anything from them.
“That is why we petitioned the Chief of Staff to call them to order. We cannot work for so many years without pay,” he explained.

The workers last year picketed at the Finance ministry over similar concerns. Even though they were given a four month salary arrears following their protest, the workers say payment stopped without any reason.
In the petition to Mr. Debrah the workers said “we were made to understand that from the financial clearance that our salary arrears will be paid in the first quarter of 2016. Sir, we are in June now and nobody is telling us anything with regards to the arrears.
“All our efforts in trying to know the whereabouts of our arrears have fallen on deaf ears as nobody from our headquarters or the Finance Ministry is prepared to listen to us.”
“Majority of our people are owing banks and other financial institutions huge sums of monies which we believe if the arrears are paid, it will go a long way to alleviate the suffering and trauma we are going through”.
