Ghana media increasingly becoming 'mischievous' - Felix

He bemoaned the increasing practice where some media houses mischievously misreport information given by government officials.
“They know the truth, they hear the truth but they deliberately distort it so that government and its officials are kept busy chasing them to correct it in order to generate controversy,” he complained during a panel discussion on Radio Gold.
His remarks come of the back of media reports which quoted the Central Regional Minister, Kweku Ricketts-Hagan as saying, the newly commissioned Komenda Sugar Factory will be shut down after six months of operation.

Making his submission, the deputy Minister asked; “How is it that you hear a Minister say clearly that the factory is going to close down after six months of operation for maintenance and then you report that he says the factory has closed down two days after commencement for six months?”
According to him, the worrying trend forced him to call “some of those radio stations to point out some of these things.”
He warned that this behaviour “has to stop” because it has dire consequences not only for the government in power, but also the citizenry.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu cited the issue of taxing pensions to buttress his point.
“It is the same mischief that informed what the Finance Minister said. The Daily Graphic report did not say that the Minister had said we were going to impose taxes,” he explained.
