Two unidentified men last night attacked the Upper East regional chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mahama Adama.

The chairman was returning from his construction site late in the night when the two unknown men stopped him.

Mahama Adama is currently receiving treatment at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital.

Public Relations Officer of the Upper East Regional Police ASP Thomas Agbanyon said, "The seats of his pick-up have all been torn by the acid. He was showered with the acid, from the head through the face to the body and all parts."

According to Adama Mahama’s aide, Zakariah Osman, the NPP chairman was in his car when he was stopped by two unidentified persons, and in an attempt to inquire the reason why he was stopped, they poured the substance on him.

The regional chairman was rushed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital where he is currently being treated.

Background

The Regional Chairman Mahama Adama with some NPP thugs disrupted a meeting between the National Chairman, the General Secretary and 6 constituency executives.

The regional chairman was reported to have mobilized the youth to attack the two national leaders and the Regional organiser Jerry Asamani for organising the meeting without his concern.

But it took the rapid response of the police to avert the situation from degenerating into a bloody meeting.

Some journalists were assaulted in the cause of the incident.
